Week 5 of 52
This week I was down to the wire on my “something I’ve never done before”. To be honest, the week just darn got away from me. Here it was Sunday and I still hadn’t come up with anything. It had been in the back of my mind that I had never been to the movies all by my lonesome. I thought, well, that’s going to be my blessing for this week. Take myself on a movie and dinner date.
A few hours before, for some reason, I started to hesitate on my decision. I thought to myself, if it’s making me uncomfortable, then I should definitely go through with it. I mean, it’s going to the movies by myself, it’s not like I’m jumping out of a flippin’ plane. All I needed was just a little bit of validation that I was making the right move. So, I Googled “Is it creepy to go to the movies by yourself?” and Google validated plus affirmed that it was in fact not weird. Not only was it affirmed, it was also encouraged by the knowledgeable internet people.
The movie I chose to watch was “80 for Brady” at a local Cinema and Grill. I have to admit, I’m not a huge movie buff and rarely ever want to watch a movie in the theater. For that reason, I wanted to see a movie that was lighthearted and somewhat of a chic-flick (my favorite genre). When I got there, I quickly scanned the room and found my booth (yes, this theater has tables). When I sat down, I felt a little awkward, but that immediately subsided. That awkwardness turned into a “hey, this actually isn’t so bad” feeling. I stretched out in my seat, ordered a veggie burger with real french fries and enjoyed the show.
Overall, I 10 out of 10 recommend going to the movies by yourself (the internet people were right). It stretched me out of my comfort zone a bit but, not only that, it was super enjoyable. I was confident in my decision of being there alone and it was empowering. Also, I learned even more that I do enjoy my own company and I make a great movie date.
